There are two for me, for different reasons. First is the American Legion in Cottonwood, Az. This fellow has more tied up in equipment than anywhere I have ever seen. Crisp, clean, driven and any other adj you could think to put in. Have never heard a sound system like his and prolly may never again.
There is a little hole in the wall place called McCormick's in Cathedral City, Ca. Right outside of Palm Springs. I did not want to turn in a ticket, but the wife did without me knowing while I was up getting a round of drinks. Everyone of the 20+ singers sounded like they just came from Hollywood. There was no one, and I mean no one that hit a bad note all night. Really impressive.

A little place out in Riverhead, Long Island called Jerry and the Mermaid. Great people, awesome food, reasonable drinks, good atmosphere, good house owned system. I haven't found a place like it since I left NY.

a great place called "the Brown Derby"(shaped like a derby hat) in Clearwater ....sadly it is gone but it had great acoustics, a wonderful sound system, 3 great welcoming hosts...wonderful food...reasonable drinks and the best regular crowd I have ever seen anywhere. There was no such thing as a stranger in that place. The library was all LD's long into the reign of the CDG but nobody cared. Sadly the Derby was torn down years ago and has faded into fond memories...SIGH

Giovanni's in Colfax, California--family owned for over 70 years with a nice restaurant next door and a comfortable bar/lounge attached--sit down chairs and lots of ambience. There was always a large number of people who came just to listen or dance and it was very comfortable. The hosts were a mix of talent and low key insanity and there were plenty of characters. I actually danced more than I sang as I wasn't really a singer back then. The same host had it for 16 years then retired and two of his co-hosts kept it going. When the place burned to the ground a few years ago, the people missed it all so much that they did some benefits to help the suddenly out of work employees and then translpanted the show to a bar down the road. We moved away 8 years ago but still made the 6 hour round trip several times a year to go back and see everyone. I haven't been to the new place yet.
