Alto Powered speakers Empty Alto Powered speakers

Has anyone got any experiences with the Alto Brand of powered speakers now available. I have listened to them in the retail outlets (was really impressed) but have yet to see them in real world. The price is really good, (almost too good) and the construction looks really tight. The few reviews I have read on line also are positive but you know that often reviews are not alway true reviews but planted reviews. Thinkin bout going powered to reduce weight.

I honestly wasn't impressed, I felt they had an almost to the level sound of the Peavey entry level PR series and I put those as lowball on the totem. But I only heard them in the store, haven't seen them out anywhere.

Yea, I was thinkin the same thing. I fo have a pair of peavey prs thatr i only use as backup, thought I'd like them due to light weight and really think I wasted money. I heard the Alro in several stores and was impressed by the sound even when compared them to JBL. Not the same but shure was easier on the checkbook. Had a nioce full sound even when pushed. I am trying to put together a rig for a small venue that has called me to bring a show to them. Also wanted to get away from an amp rack since I was going to hire someone to run this show for me. Dunno?

Have you considered ElectroVoice (EV)...I use their 18" subs and 2 - 15"double towers..rich full sound without the big bucks that you have to spend on the Peavey's..plus EV has 'kit's that might be within your budget..

Rumbolt,

I have had Peavey Impulse (powered), Mackie 450 (powered) and had issues with both of them, I have been using RFC (powered) for some time now (I have/had three pair, one was brought down by a drunk chick try to swing on the speaker pole) and have had (0) problems or issues with any of them, plenty of bottom punch for smaller venues and enough volume for many mid-sized venues.

Don't get me wrong I am a big fan of Peavey and have been using their gear for 30+ years, just not a fan of their powered speakers.

My last powered purchase from Peavey was their Impulse with the ribbon driver in them, awesome sound but started having issues with the amp/crossover section within two months of the purchase (the same issue I had with their other Impulse powered speakers). I had them repaired and sold them without ever using them again.

We have the RCFs also--they are closing out the ART models for a new line so there are deals to be had. I am not a sound expert but as an ancient, short female, I can say that I can put them up on the poles by myself, carry one in each hand for short distances and they take a lot less space in the car--plus no heavy amp. We keep our Yamahas for outdoor events but there is no way I could set those up and take them down by myself if the boyfriend can't make it. The new lightweight plastic innovations have set me free.

Oh--did go to a show that had Harbingers which are also a lower cost brand you see touted. It could have been the room (echo chamber) or the operators but the sound was really muffled and not clear at all and seemed extremely bass-y. You couldn't understand what the singers were saying.

EV ? The models I have looked at were a bit pricey. $700+ What model are you refering to?

Hi Steve, actually I am not a real big fan of Peavey. I was just trying to consider powered so whomever I hire to runa a show on my behalf will have an easy setup.

Here is another reference on the EV ZX1's while they have a great sound at lower levels they simply can't put out enough SPLs to cover anything more than a small house party and that is with an 18" sub. I bought a pair and after one use in a venue ended up using them in the studio with a 12 inch sub for a "house sound" (to see what the sound of a mix would be like coming out of a more bar like sound system instead of the studio monitors and they do very well in my 10' x 15' mixing room).

As Ref, I use the EV LIVE X series:

http://www.electrovoice.com/livex/powered.php?lang=en

For the money(lesser than Peavey/JBL cost @ same wattage), its has better sound (IMHO) for the money!

Anyway, hope you find the info useful.
